hi brainy people, can you please help me with my assignment?
A hot cup of tea, initially at 60⁰C is cooled in the breeze of a fan. After 2 minutes it is 50⁰C, and after 4 minutes it is 42 ⁰C. After a further 2 minutes its temperature is likely to be
(a) 34⁰C
(b) 36⁰C
(c) 32⁰C
(d) 30⁰C
(e) Cannot be determined since it depends on the initial temperature of the room.
can you please tell me how you worked it out too?
p.s. are these answers right?
1. Kylene takes a metal and wooden ruler out of her pencil case. She says the metal ruler feels colder than the wooden one. Explain.

I would say E because the heat transfer rate is dependent on the initial temperature of the room. The tea and the room temperature want to move to the same temperature, so you need to know that initial temperature to make any sort of calculation. Otherwise, you would just be guessing at a temperature.
1. corrrect. Or you could say metal has a lower specific heat value than wood.
2. correct. And the more the particles move around, the more efficient the heat transfer… Its also a cool little fact to know that convection is really just a form of conduction: heat is conducted through particles in both forms of heat transfer. Tell your teacher that and he might be impressed.
