Could you please help me find songs about history, preferably the 17 & 1800′s?

I have to make a CD of 15 songs about the material we’ve covered so far, which is like the American Revolution to the American Civil War.

Well, there is “A Call to Arms,” “The Year of Jubilee,” “Preperations for Battle,” and “Charging Fort Wagner” off the Glory soundtrack. Though keep in mind that’s largely going to be straight instrumentals or words folks might not understand. But that is all going to be for the ACW, and the 54th Mass. in particular. Vocals are preformed by the Harlem Boys Chior and the songs were composed and conducted by James Horner

Also on the ACW I’d go with Bob Dylan’s ” ‘Cross the Green Mountain”

Then there’s the novelty song “Battle of New Orleans” which would be for the War of 1812. It was originally preformed by Johnny Horton in 1959 but there have been a number of covers done since then.
