Tea Bag Storage

I have a large bag of mate tea I got in South America, it is expired by 9 months. Is it dangerous to drink?
The tea has been kept dry in storage, out of exposure. It’s the powdery type with little sticks. I am wondering if anyone might know if it is dangerous ie. for mold, etc. to drink? It seems to taste fine but I’m just not quite sure.
I have a bag of mate for about 3 years, I still drink it once in a while and it’s just find, just like tea you may loose some of it’s flavor that’s all
