Tea Packaging For Loose Leaf Teas And Flowering Tea
Packaging of tea is incredibly critical to the flavor, life and look of tea – and this remains true for jasmine green tea, blooming tea, flowers teas and any variety of loose leaf teas or tea ball.
The things that are not favorable for tea are light and air which would be why tea caddies are so popular. To ensure the quality flavour and look of tea, it should be kept in an airtight container and away from the light. Even though the old traditional tea caddy was not usually airtight, at least it protected tea from light and so helped in maintaining the integrity of tea.
The optimum container for tea has a top that seals, does not let in light and does not have previous flavors. Utilising that type of container gives tea the best opportunity of staying as fresh as possible. It is also sensible to use a container that is not tainted with smell or flavor from previous use as this will badly affect tea stored in the container. Importantly avoid plastic containers for this reason.
A recent purchase of some loose green tea at The Tea Centre, Sydney, came with impressive foil/laminate packaging. That packaging was very modern, easy to manage and did the job. And, regular use of the various tea packaging has not seen them fall apart or become difficult to use. With no tea tin, quality packaging from a store may be used for smaller packages of tea.
There are many very groovy and incredible ideas for tea bag packets including teabag sticks, Japanese origami teabags, teabags with arms, paper boats, stick shaped infusers and walking stick bags – all great for jasmine green tea or any kind of loose leaf tea. As they are prototypes, I’m dubious about how well they would function, but they are heaps of fun at the very least.
However, those novelties are for tea bags, not really for top quality loose leaf tea or flowering tea balls. There is no skirting the fact that loose leaf tea, as well as flowering tea products benefit from the conservative approach to packaging. The appropriate care remains this – no air, dark packaging to keep light away and then, purchase small amounts of tea at once.
