Looking for old recipe for coffee cake shaped cake / crumbs, like Granny used to do.?
This recipe comes from a few ingredients, make a layer cake pan w / bread crumbs. Not very nice, but just right w / coffee or tea. Very fast to with things most people have on hand. the recipe was in a very old cookbook, but can not remember the name.
A crumb cake delicacy that uses common ingredients. I add cinnamon for garnish crumb, but it is good anyway. Margarine or shortening instead of butter will work in this recipe. If you do not have buttermilk, you can do so by adding a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar in a measuring cup and Fill with milk to measure one cup. Stir and let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes. You will have curds to the recipe. 1 / 2 cup butter, melted 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup sour milk (see note) 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) Preheat oven to 325 ° F and spray an 8-inch square pan with cooking spray. Mix brown sugar and flour and mix well without lumps, add the melted butter and mix well or crumble in your hands to mix well. Reserve 3 / 4 c of the mixture for garnish, if desired Mix the cinnamon in the topping mixture. Mix baking powder, then add the milk and egg and mix well. Sprinkle the reserved crumbs evenly over top of batter. Bake at 325 degrees for about 55-60 minutes or until the cake pulls slightly away from side of pan and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve hot, even better with whipped cream, Cool Whip or ice cream.
