Ways to Prevent From Nausea
You can have a mild tea or have ginger ale which helps to soothe your stomach. You can also have slippery elm, red raspberry as well as herbal candies.
Smaller amounts of food are always good for you diet. Once you start feeling better you have a fiber rich diet such as banana, rice, apple sauce and toast.
Fluids are given by mouth if you can keep them down, or through a vein into the bloodstream. The IV route is a common way to give fluids back to the body in moderate to severe dehydration.
If your nausea is the result of a migraine, treating the migraine (with medication, a cold compress, rest, quiet, and darkness) will also help with the nausea and vomiting. If your upset stomach is caused by gastroesophageal reflux, you can alleviate your symptoms by taking an over-the-counter (OTC) medication and doing whatever else your doctor has advised you to do when your reflux flares up. Of course, there are other possible causes of nausea and vomiting, too.
1 TBS apple cider vinegar plus 1 TBS honey mixed in 1 cup of water, sip. Can be hot or cold drink, whichever you prefer.
Fresh lime or lemon squeezed in glass of water; sprinkle a little salt on top, sip.
Just freshly ground ginger root (fair amount, don’t be stingy) into hot water, let steep like tea and sieve the grated pieces out with a spoon or cover the hot water with a piece of cheesecloth or gauze for easy removal following the steeping process. Drink while hot and may put in a tablespoon of honey for flavor but remember that honey has sedative effects.
Some have found that just smelling a lemon can ease nausea. The next time you’re feeling sick to your stomach, cut open a lemon and take a deep breath. This simple treatment might soothe your upset stomach. However, if the lemon smell just makes your nausea worse, toss the lemon and try something else.
Acupressure can benefit provided you know the right pressure points. You can do this by applying pressure between the thumb and forefinger. This would help remove the queasy feeling and stop vomiting sensations. Anyway, you are advised to consult an acupressure specialist to know the right pressure point.
Place the tip of your right index finger on the underside of your left wrist, about 1.5 in. (4 cm) from your hand. Acupressure points are very small, so you may need to try this method more than one time.
If you are taking care of a child, call for medical advice if the child does not urinate in 6-8 hours (or has dry diapers for that period of time). Signs and symptoms of dehydration in children and dehydration in adults (severe loss of body fluids) include weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness—these symptoms are worse when standing—dry mouth and lips, less urine than normal, dark-yellow and smelly urine, and severe thirst.
Stash some crackers on your night table and nibble on them before you get up in the morning. Morning sickness is usually worse in the morning. Eating a few crackers before you get up will give you at least some relief. It is also a good idea to keep a pack of crackers in your purse, your desk and even in the car for those sudden spurs of nausea.
