how do I know if Indian silver is solid or plate?
I have a very nice teapot marked Century gift – made in india. Is plate or silver?
Silver is too thin to make a teapot. They’re virtually all silverplate in order to have the strength and weight necessary to perform their function.
FWIW, Indian silver plate is often incredibly thin, so thin that a routine polishing of a silver object which is dull but not tarnished removes the silver and exposes brass.
