Green Tea Bags Bulk

How long does green tea stay fresh?
I bought Zen Tea bags from starbucks… I like to make the tea in bulk but don’t have room in the fridge. Does it need to be refrigerated if I put it in a pitcher, and if I don’t add anything at all to sweeten it? Also, how long does it stay fresh? Sometimes I drink a lot, and other times I won’t drink it as fast, but will it still be fresh after a week or so?
Corny Chris… there is no expiration date on tea. You boil the water, put the tea bags in, and I’m wondering how long after that it stays fresh…
I make a green tea beverage using 3 Tbs. of jasmine tea leaves (in bulk, not bag), 1 lemon, and 6 tablespoons of sugar – in 2 quarts of water.
I heat the water to 180 degrees, remove it from the stove, add the leaves and brew them for 5 minutes. If you use boiling water or brew it for more than 5 minutes, green teas will turn bitter – a taste that some people like, but I don’t. (Tea experts say that water for green tea should never exceed 180 degrees.)
I keep the beverage in the fridge and drink it cold. It lasts at least 10 days and seems fine throughout that time.
I recommend that you keep the bulk tea in a sealed container in the fridge after brewing. It won’t be very good after a day, if it’s not kept cool – it will start to oxidize.
If you want to drink the bulk tea warm, heat it very slowly and never bring the brewed tea to a boil – unless, again, you like bitter tea.
Finally, if you want to explore the world of green teas, here’s a great source of top-quality teas (in bulk). These are of much better quality that Tazo or any bagged teas.
