How To Make Deodorant With Baking Soda
Making deodorant at home is not really an elaborate undertaking. Why would anyone want to make deodorant? Due to the fact that making homemade deodorant can help you steer clear of aluminum toxicity.
Just about all commercial antiperspirant and deodorant products incorporate some form of aluminum. As an ingredient, aluminum helps to neutralize odor and block sweat glands. Once in the body, however, aluminum is really a brain poison (neurotoxin) that has been connected to Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer and other degenerative conditions.
Crystal deodorant stones are an alternative retail product thought to be a safer way to deal with personal odor. These stones contain an ingredient known as potassium aluminum sulfate (potassium alum). These molecules are natural salts and deemed too big to be absorbed by your skin. Cancer patients are often told to utilize these instead of products formulated with aluminum.
There is, however, an even safer alternative than this. For a few cents, you’re able to make your own deodorant using ingredients you may well have in your cupboard. Even if you aren’t in possession of every one of the ingredients in stock, you will require such small amounts, that it’s REALLY affordable to purchase them. This simple natural recipe will also benefit your health by helping you steer clear of aluminum.
Gather the following: four Tablespoons of Arm & Hammer baking soda (doesn’t have aluminum), four Tbsp arrowroot powder, a little less than a half cup of Coconut oil, a couple of Tbsp of beeswax beads and 10 drops of your preference of essential oil (optional).
Note: Coconut oil will help fight odor causing bacteria while adding nourishment to and moisturizing your skin. Essential oils help do away with odors also, but make sure to find oils that have not been manufactured by harsh chemical extraction as this could inflame your skin. Tea tree oil, lavender, frankincense, and citrus oils all have properties which will help eliminate odors.
For making deodorant:
1. Gently melt the beeswax in the coconut oil.
2. With a fork, blend the arrowroot powder and baking soda.
3. Gradually add the baking soda & arrowroot powder to the coconut oil and wax, working it in with a fork till fully blended.
A firm paste will form that’s much like the texture of retailed deodorant. The paste will continue to firm while it cools. More arrowroot can be added if it appears too wet or slushy. Beeswax helps prevent the paste from melting in warmer temperatures. Should it become cold and too firm, place the container inside of a pocket to warm for a few minutes before use.
This can be stored in a lidded wide mouthed jar. Most pharmacies have got salve or lotion jars in their travel container department. Using these compact containers allows each member of the family to have an individual container.
This recipe produces nearly one cup and will last several months for a single individual with daily use.
