When I super heat water in microwave, why does it boil when I put the tea bag in?
Hey you Chemistry majors, give me the super technical reason why super hot water (microwaved in ceramic cup) boils (ebullition, explodes, bubbles, effervesce, eruption) when the tea bag (or other suger or other object) is put into the cup and hot water.
Thanks folks so far with answers and “nucleation”. I have an engineering degree, got it. If I just heat the water for a long time, bubbling may happen gradually and boil over. Other times if I let the mircowave go too long, it will BLOW OUT, instantaniously sending 2/3rds of the water out the cup into the microwave, spectacuarly with a “Pooom!” Lots of energy and dangerous. I know how long to microwave it.
